* Study shows special protection against Delta variant from Sinopharm vaccine - Prof. Jayasumana

July 12, Colombo: State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana says that a local research has revealed that the China-manufactured Sinopharm vaccine offers special immunity towards the Delta variant of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

According to a research conducted in Sri Lanka, the Sinopharm vaccine has been shown to provide significant protection against the Delta variant of the Coronavirus and the report of the study will be released in the coming weeks, the State Minister said.

Prof. Jayasumana said the 2 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine received from China will be used for the vaccination program for the people of this country from today (12).

Accordingly, 500,000 doses will be given to the Gampaha District, 300,000 to the Kalutara District, 200,000 to the Colombo District, 200,000 to the Kurunegala District and 100,000 to other districts including the Anuradhapura District, the Minister said in Anuradhapura yesterday (11).

State Minister Prof. Jayasumana said a similar consignment of vaccine is expected next week as well.
