In the last phase of its test before formal commissioning, light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas, designed for the Indian Air Force (IAF) went past its ultimate speed of 1,350 kmph in Goa's skies. The researchers, designers and defence force personnel attached to this indigenously designed aircraft confirmed that it successfully passed the test under maritime condition off-Goa coast marking a milestone before formal induction. "The aircraft went past its ultimate speed of 1,350 kmph on December 7 in Goan skies when it took off from Indian Navy?s INS Hansa base," Cmdr Rohit Varma, project director (flight test), National Flight Test Centre, told reporters here. He said that this is the fastest speed ever achieved by an Indian made fighter aircraft. The aircraft also passed flight flutter test after diving from four kilometres height and later taking off at 900 metres close to sea level.
