4月4日，驱逐舰DDG 1002开工

DDG 1001, USS Michael Monssor
为滨海作战和对陆打击而设计的DDG 1000型多功能驱逐舰，具有独立的前沿部署和威慑能力，支持特种作战，是未来联合部队和远征部队的重要组成部分。
DDG 1000集成了很多关键技术和系统，包括基于HIS的系统集成方法，更高的质量和生活品质，更地的使用成本等等。
第一艘DDG 1000的建造工作始于2009年，目前已完成65%，预计2014年交付海军；
第二艘DDG 1001的建造工作始于2010年，预计2016年交付海军；
DDG 1002预计2018年交付。
DDG 1000采用了分段建造在组装的方式。
DDG 1000的建造工作是在海军海上系统司令部项目管理办公室PEO的组织下进行，PEO负责海军所有驱逐舰，两栖战舰，特种作战舰艇，辅船的开发、采购、制造工作。

加速DDG-51和DDG-1000高效制造的焊缝自动除平和刨削系统（Weld Seam Facing and Back Gouging）
NMC has successfully led the development of a weld removal system that is in use at Bath Iron Works and Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in the construction of DDG 1000. The technology is dramatically reducing manual grinding and the associated medical and production costs and is greatly increasing the removal rate of weld protrusions. This system has also been modified for other uses such as back gouging and sanding.
