17 顶: Unless I am missing something here, USA s a free market capitalist society. In other words. Let the markets dictate. So, the Chinese built and demonstrated a cheaper and more accurate missile system. So, Turkey bought it. Tell me how this is not in line with our supposedly economic system that we brag about. Maybe we should work on upgrading the patriot system and lower the price! That would be a good first start! Did everyone see that we were in third place behind the Franco/Italian system! ------------- The US supports democracy when people in foreign countries vote for the candidate that favors the US, and the US supports free-market capitalism when these same governments buy from the US, regardless of the price. 6 顶: ------------- The Turks are right to get what they need at a reasonable price. US defense firms are so used to ripping off US taxpayers they think they can try the same schemes on international tenders. Plus the Chinese system Turkey wants to acquire performs better than the obsolete Patriot. And the Foreign affairs minister of Turkey is right: the "sanctions" imposed on the Chinese firm are NOT recognized under international law. Those are American unilateral measures. One more thing: the bait of a "EU membership for Turkey" doesn't work 21顶: --------------- Do all nations have to buy guns and missiles from US? Does US have to approve all companies which produce military equipments? 25顶: --------------- NATO obligations dont include getting ripped off on weapons purchases. Turkey has a right to get the best deal for its taxpayers. Too bad more NATO countries dont do the same and look at Russia or China for armament purchases. They would get comparable quality and a much better price. Case and point Central European nations that joined NATO recently are made to go heavily into debt to purchase these arms. With the money loaned by IMF or World Bank they then are subject to forced privatizations where people with IMF 21顶: --------------- the only thing left that the USA make is bombs, and defense systems and it looks like that wall has been breached now also -- the brakes on the USA industrial empire that Goldman Sachs and Wall Street have administer over the last 30 years for personal fortune have turned the country into a desert of production10顶: The most interesting aspect of this article is that the USA sites their "sanctions" against this company as if it should be an important issue for Turkey. Are these sanctions in place because the USA claims this company does business with "terrorist" organizations? If so, perhaps they should look a little closer at some of their own companies (and government) for giving SO MUCH support to Al Qaeda (via the Muslim brotherhood). Since the USA has willingly and openly supported (financially, as well as helping them take over whole countries, and supplying them with free weapons) an organization that falls within THEIR OWN list of "terrorist" organizations, perhaps these the USA can put these same sanctions on their own companies, and their own government. 21顶: --------------- Turkey has every right to spend its money as it pleases without interference from any other nation. Turkey is single-handedly hosting tens of thousands of Syrian refugees in relatively decent conditions and no one is complaining about how Turkey spendsTHAT money, are they? 8顶: --------------- |
